Do not place the following items in the skip
Hazardous waste is waste which is toxic, ignitable, corrosive, carcinogenic, such as heavy metals, chemicals, oils, paints, hazardous household and garden products, asbestos etc.. Other items not allowed in the skip are things such as batteries, gas cylinders, medical waste and tyres. Sand, soil, clay should not be placed in the skip, unless discussed with MUMSON.
Overloading the skip
Please do not overload the skip. This is for the protection of our equipment, as well as other road users. It is safer to rather order an extra skip if need be. Skips can only be filled below its capacity line, so that no items can fall out during travel. The 2 cubic metre line must not be exceeded if you have ordered a 2 cube skip. Any overloaded skips will need to be emptied by the hirer at the hirer’s cost, until the skip is suitable to be lifted.
Flat packing of items, such as floor tiles, bricks etc, with no air space in between is not allowed, as the skip will be too heavy. Please chat to us first.
Certain waste is considered heavy waste, due to its high density, compared to it volume. Concrete, bricks, soil, sand, clay can weigh anywhere between 1 ton and 1.5 tons per cubic metre. These items are porous and absorb water. Water can weigh 1 ton per cubic metre. Therefore, if the items placed into the skip are wet, the weight will be greater. Sand, soil, clay should not be placed in the skip, unless discussed with MUMSON.
Suitable clearance / placement of the skip / access
The hirer, the person or business hiring the skip from MUMSON, must ensure that the skip can be placed in a suitable safe place, before arrival of the skip, taking into account the public, residents, other road users, height restrictions, weight restrictions, pavements, walls, wiring, plumbing, pipes etc..
The hirer must ensure that the relevant approval is granted to bring a skip in, for example into a complex and that there is a person available to sign for the delivery of the skip. Once the skip is placed, the hirer must ensure that the skip is not manually moved to another position, as our vehicle may not be able to reach the skip at collection time. If this is the case, the hirer will then need to empty the skip, in order for it to be moved manually. Should MUMSON be called out by any authority to remove a skip or re position a skip, the hirer may incur extra costs in this regard, such as a R200 extra travel expense.
The skip needs to be placed in an area, where there is suitable space, at least 1,5 to 2 metres around the skip. Upon delivery of the skip, if it is found there is no suitable space to place the skip, a wasted travel expense of R200 will be charged. The hirer must also ensure that there is adequate road access and space for manoeuvrability in order for the MUMSON vehicle and trailer to be able to get to the drop off point, as well as cleared access in order to collect the full skip.
Cancellation
Cancellation of a skip order should be done the day before. If you have already paid for the skip hire, this will be refunded to you. Cancellation on the day, or on delivery of the skip, will result in a R200 charge due to the wasted travel expense.
Public protection
Should it be required, and depending on what the hirer has placed in the skip, the hirer will cover the contents in the skip, to ensure the safety of the residents, public, animals and other road users at all times, whilst the skip is in the hirer’s possession.
Indemnity
MUMSON Pty Ltd, and it’s staff, will not be held liable for any personal injury, personal property damage, or public injury or public property damage, and the hirer fully indemnifies MUMSON Pty Ltd, as well as their staff, against any legal action, damages, or any costs which may occur or granted against MUMSON Pty Ltd, during the entire duration the hirer is in possession of the skip, from point of delivery to collection of the skip.
